Frisco recently topped the U.S. Census bureau’s list of fastest growing big cities in the nation, adding an average of 37 new residents every day. The Dallas suburb ranked ninth in the actual numbers of residents it added over the year. This is impressive considering the city sits at a population of less than 200,000. Three large projects were completed last year in Plano, which sits just on the edge of Frisco, the headquarters for Toyota Motor North America and corporate offices for Liberty Mutual Insurance and JPMorgan Chase & Co. While this is all great news for the growing city and its neighbor, the increase in the population will inevitably lead to higher risk and liability for residents and businesses nearby. At Tac7, we believe it is crucial to have a corporate security in the event of an active shooter attack.
Building a culture of safety and security is crucial to any organization. An insufficient security culture can quickly lead to vulnerabilities and incidents in an organization. Creating a strong and secure workplace is a team effort. An employee or member of management working solely may not be capable of drafting and implementing policy that has everyone’s best interests in mind. Sharing the responsibility can also avert and mitigate the likelihood of mistakes that could open the organization up to an attack.
At Tac7, we offer three types of training seminars to keep you and your employees informed and ready in the event of an active shooter incident. Most large businesses DO offer a police training seminar, however, they do not take into consideration your company size, points of weakness to the building, attack plans and trauma/medical knowledge.
At Tac7, we offer three types of active shooter response training.
60-90 MINUTE SEMINAR
A presentation of the critical components of responding to an active shooter or deadly threat in a workplace environment. Included are life-saving actions to be taken immediately upon discovery of a threat, discussions on Run, Hide, Fight and how it pertains to your workplace, as well as basic fundamentals of stopping bleeding – tourniquet and pressure dressing use.
1/2 OR FULL DAY TRAINING
A more elaborate presentation than the 90 Minute Seminar on components of responding to an active shooter and stopping bleeding, as well as training that is more specific to your office layout/environment/staff and what to expect when first responders arrive to the scene. This includes a preliminary visit to your workplace so that we can tailor a plan best suited for your unique environment. Specific recommendations are made for escape plans/routes as well as areas to use as safe rooms. Rehearsals may be conducted using role-players.
FULL/MULTI-DAY TRAINING
A more extensive presentation on workplace violence, active shooter response, and situational awareness, followed by a trauma/medical class focused on stopping bleeding, moving a casualty, and current protocols for CPR. Emergency response and Run, Hide, Fight plans are explained to staff with specific regard to your unique office layout. Rehearsals are conducted with staff and role players, allowing staff the chance to actually practice moving to safe areas and exits, as well as dealing with casualties and communicating with first responders.
Getting professional guidance and implementing an active shooter response plan and situational awareness training program within your organization can greatly enhance the security culture. At Tac7, we believe an effective security training session can limit the unintended risks exposed to an organization, mitigating the chances of monetary loss, physical injury, or even death.
